Projects

The Terme Lipik Project is an integrated project for the development and revitalization of Lipik’s cultural heritage, which aims to encourage the restoration and preservation of cultural heritage and put into operation and use the tourist potential of three strategically important facilities: Zinke Villa – Good Water Villa, Spa Garden and Public Baths. The Terme Lipik Project will raise the standards of interpretation, offer and quality of cultural tourist contents, improve the system of promotion and distribution of cultural tourist contents raise the public awareness about preservation and valorisation of cultural heritage.

The project holder is the City of Lipik which partnered up with Lipik Spa and the Tourist Board of Lipik, while the European Regional Development Fund enables funding through the invitation for the Preparation and implementation of integrated development programmes based on restoration of cultural heritage in Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem.

Zinke Villa

Zinke Villa holds great importance for Lipik and its citizens. As early as the 19th century, Lipik became a preferred tourist destination of rich Austro-Hungarian nobles who sought rest on its hot springs abundant in beneficial minerals. After its devastation in the Croatian War of Independence, only ruins of the villa remain as a reminder of its former splendour. The Terme Lipik Project plans to build the Lipik Interpretation Centre of Thermal Springs Heritage – The Villa of Good Water, in which the historical heritage of Lipik will be presented through museum permanent and temporary exhibitions, an entertainment room and accompanying educational activities.

Public baths

The centuries-old tradition of spa tourism in Lipik is first and foremost founded on the healing properties of the local thermal water, which has a constant spring temperature of 60°C. At the beginning of the 20th century, Lipik was one of the most popular European health resorts, with its Public Baths as the focal point and the oldest health resort in the landscaped public garden. The Terme Lipik Project also includes the reconstruction of the Public Baths as a sort of a central place and an interpretation point where the properties of thermo-mineral water and the Lipik Thermal Spa will be presented, as a continuation of the presentation of the interpretive content of the Villa of Good Water.

Spa Garden

Lipik’s Spa Garden forms part of the urban and architectural ensemble of the historical health retreat from the second half of the 19th and the early 20th century. In 1965, the Spa Garden was included in the Register of Protected Natural Objects, and in 1980 the urban ensemble of Lipik entered the Register of Immovable Cultural Monuments. The steady development of the health retreat and town continued until the war in 1991, when the landscaped public garden was also almost completely devastated. The Terme Lipik Project will revitalize and restore the Spa Garden, which will thoroughly change the look of Lipik.
